Kirby Pine Capital

A small business acquisition firm focused on long-term ownership

About Kirby Pine Capital

Kirby Pine Capital is passionate about small businesses and the vital role they play in their communities.

We’re not a private equity firm focused on cost-cutting, and we’re not a strategic buyer looking to consolidate or flip businesses.

We bring long-term capital and a commitment to a seamless transition, focused on growing an established company, supporting its people, and extending the legacy the owner has built.

Our Mission

Acquire and operate an exceptional, established, well-run business

Our Operating Principles

At Kirby Pine Capital, we’re not looking to reinvent the wheel. Our goal is to build on what’s already working—preserving the core of the business while helping it grow thoughtfully over time.

Here’s how we approach ownership:

  • Preserve What Matters
We respect the legacy, people, and reputation that make a business great. Our goal is to protect what’s made the company successful—not overhaul it.

  • Take Care of Customers and Teams
We value the relationships that have been built over time—with customers, employees, and communities. Those relationships are the foundation of long-term success.

  • Keep It Simple and Sustainable
We believe in operating with clarity and consistency. No flashy strategy—just steady execution, sound decisions, and a long-term view.

  • Adapt and Learn
With experience across multiple industries, we know how to listen, learn quickly, and adapt to the unique needs of a business and its people.

  • Earn It Every Day
We show up with humility, work hard, and lead by example. Ownership isn’t a transaction—it’s a commitment.

We know every business is unique -- and deserves to be evaluated that way.

That said,
we’re focused on companies that share a few key characteristics:

  • A product or service with steady, long-term demand

  • A strong reputation in its local or regional market

  • A history of consistent profitability

  • $750k to $2 million in annual cash flow

  • A committed team that's proud of their work and excited to keep building

We understand that selling a business is a big decision—and one that should move at the right pace.

While every situation is different, most transitions take about 3 to 6 months. During that time, we work closely with the owner to build a relationship, evaluate the opportunity, and ensure there’s strong alignment on goals.

Our approach is flexible. We’re committed to working on a timeline that fits the seller’s needs—not just ours.

David Hahn

David developed a passion for small businesses through years of working directly with founders and business owners—helping them access the capital they need to grow, transition, and thrive. During his time at JP Morgan and Live Oak Bank, he saw firsthand the impact that small businesses have—not only on their employees and customers, but on the broader communities they serve. After moving from a large city to a smaller one, that impact became even more tangible.

In founding Kirby Pine Capital, David is seeking to acquire and operate one great small business. His goal is to build on what the owner has created, manage it actively, and invest in its long-term future.

David began his career in real estate finance before serving in an elite community of the U.S. Navy. He has since worked across a range of industries, advising business owners on growth, succession, and strategic planning.

He holds a BA from Duke University and an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Outside of work, David enjoys traveling with his wife, Mary, and chasing after their two young children.
